About us
All Bromptons are designed and built in our factory in West London, England. Brompton is one of only two major frame manufacturers still based in the UK, and we have been in full production since 1988. The company has come a long way since its initial production facility in a railway arch, and the current site occupies 22,000 ft2 (some 2,000m2); you can read more about our history.
The company remains in private hands and is now led by Will Butler-Adams, though the Brompton’s inventor, Andrew Ritchie, continues to act as Technical Director. Private ownership has played a big part in making Brompton successful as we have always been able to focus solely on the bike, never the demands of corporate shareholders.
Today, Bromptons are sold in 42 export markets. In the UK, USA, Canada and Ireland, we sell directly to carefully-selected bicycle retailers; in other territories, we sell to distributors who operate their own dealer networks.
The mid-level workshop accreditation. To gain this level of accreditation the dealership will have a Cytec level 2 qualified mechanic; this mechanic will have been trained, by Brompton, in a number of Brompton specific tasks. The workshop will own the tool to perform the rear hinge replacement task and will also have access to the other Brompton specific tools. They are also required to hold inventory of all essential and recommended spares as highlighted in the spares and accessories listings.
The basic level of workshop accreditation. To gain this level of accreditation the dealership will have a Cytec level 2 qualified mechanic; this mechanic will have been trained, by Brompton, in a number of Brompton specific tasks. They are also required to hold a full inventory of essential spares as highlighted in the spares and accessories listings.
This workshop has not yet been accredited but should carry essential spares required to get a Brompton back on the road.
B-spoke Centre
This is the highest level of retail categorisation of a Brompton dealer. All B-spoke Centres will have four demonstrator bikes, this covers the full range of handlebar styles and ride positions; all luggage options will be available as will a wide range of other Brompton spares and accessories. All staff members will have a good knowledge of Brompton products.
Approved Dealer
This type of dealer will have at least one demonstrator model for you to try and a good selection of bikes and accessories for you to review and purchase. They will have been a Brompton dealer for at least one year and members of staff will be knowledgeable about Brompton and associated products.
New Dealer
This type of dealer will have become a Full Brompton dealer in the last 12 months; they will have at least one demonstrator model for you to try and a good selection of bikes and accessories for you to review and purchase.
Occasional Dealer
This type of dealership will have a demonstrator Brompton for you to try but may not have a wide selection of stock on hand for you to review or purchase.
Spares & Accessories Dealer
A dealer that only sells Brompton spares and accessories.
